Learning to Trust God in All Things: A Personal Journey

Learning to Trust God in All Things: A Personal Journey

Trusting God can be one of the most challenging aspects of the Christian faith. It’s easy to believe in God’s existence and even easier to recite the prayers and hymns. But when it comes to putting our complete trust in Him, especially during difficult times, we may find ourselves struggling.

I remember growing up in a Christian family where my parents always encouraged me to trust in God. They would often quote verses like Proverbs 3:5-6 which says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

The Challenges of Trusting God

Despite my parents’ words of encouragement, trusting God was not always an easy thing for me. As I grew older, I faced numerous challenges that tested my faith and forced me to question whether or not I could truly trust in Him.

One such challenge came when I was diagnosed with a chronic illness at the age of 25. The doctor’s prognosis was grim, and I was told that there was no cure for my condition. I was devastated, and my initial response was to question God’s plan for my life.

Finding Comfort in Scripture

During this difficult time, I turned to the Bible for comfort and guidance. I read verses like Psalm 34:18 which says, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” I also found solace in Romans 8:28, which assures us that “all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose.”

Learning to Surrender

As I continued to read the Bible and pray, I began to understand that trusting God meant surrendering my life to Him. It wasn’t about having all the answers or understanding every situation; it was about placing my faith in His hands and believing that He would work everything out for good.

The Power of Prayer

Another important aspect of trusting God that I learned during this time was the power of prayer. I began to pray regularly, seeking God’s guidance and wisdom in all aspects of my life. I also started praying for others, which gave me a sense of purpose and helped me focus on the needs of others rather than my own problems.

God’s Faithfulness

Over time, I began to see God’s faithfulness in my life. He provided for my needs, healed me physically and emotionally, and opened doors that I never thought possible. I learned that trusting God wasn’t about having a perfect understanding of the world or even having all the answers; it was about placing my faith in Him and believing that He would always be there for me.

The Journey Continues

My journey of learning to trust God continues to this day. There are still challenges that come my way, but I have learned to lean on Him and believe that He will see me through. I encourage you to do the same, no matter what difficulties you may be facing.

As the hymn says, “Trust and Obey, for there’s no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.”
